THE WINEPRESS ROUTE
The vineyards were important pillars in the economy of the area during the XVIII and XIX Centuries. As a witness to that period, we still can see the remains of this activity, today being part of the scenery of the landscape. The winepress was one of the most useful tools during that period. During the process of the wine, the winepress contained the grape juice that was not fermented yet and stayed there until the end of the fermentation process. Because of the difficulty of the land it was complicated to transport the grapes and the solution was to place the winepress around the vineyards.
So we can find the winepress on a side of the vineyard, in a slope of the land, making it easier for the workers to place the grape in. Winepresses were covered with ceramic covers making them totally waterproof.
